A. Set A reminds me of a home for a noble Italian family’s lake home, a getaway during the medieval ages from the hasty politics of the Italian city-states. There is lavish décor which can symbolize richness, while it’s obvious that the architecture is intricate, only available to the highest classes of nobility.
ReplyDeleteB. Set B makes me think about a suburban home, probably when the industrial revolution was just starting or maybe around the mid-1900s. It has an air of humble beginnings and sort of a feeling of isolation in it. The colors are drab and normal, typical of most standard homes making it simple against any landscape.
C. Set C has a frontier feeling to it. It feels and looks like the interior of a home out in the deep west, or maybe even in Alaska. The style of the furniture, wooden floor, antler trophy, and guns hanging from the wall make me think of a hunter. Someone who actually goes out there to get his family (or his own) food.
D. Set D is the most unique of the four. The design is Romanesque in style, but also minimum in its design. It seems a bit paradoxical with the arches built side-ways instead of upright. I can sort of feel a magical or mythical Roman/Greek legend being played on this set.
1) In set A, the play is probably set during Queen Elizabeth time in England. I can tell by the clothing the people wear. It seems like they are wearing really expensive clothes. The lady is wearing a nice big dress that puffs out at the lower part of her dress. Then the man is wearing green attire. He is also wearing high socks which were a style back in the day to show that you were wealthy. The play is probably set in an extremely wealthy person’s house. Maybe a person who works for the government. The set also shows that a big dance party is about to take place, or a guy is there to visit the girl and try to persuade the girl to go on a date with him. There is a grand piano which shows that they are in the living room with an open balcony.
ReplyDelete2) In set B, the play looks like it is set in farm. It shows the owner sitting outside lonely. It was just another day at the farm and the owner is bored to death and he has nothing to do, and no one to even talk to. It might not be a farm house, it might be a house in the middle of nowhere and I think it is about to rain and thunderstorm or the sky is just getting dark because the sun is setting. The grass on the stage shows that the scene is on a grassy area. I can also see a lot of hay which actually shows prove of living in a farm. Although I do not see any farm animals such as chickens running around, dogs chasing them and a cow just glazing all over the grass, I still believe the set is on a farm land.
3) In set C, I believe that the play is set in a house of a wealthy man. I can also tell that the house is like a bar. The owner of the house is a really wealthy man and the house is probably set in Alaska or in a place with many wild lives. The owner has a big hobby in hunting. You can see the two guns hanging on the top of the door and the big buck’s antlers on top of the other door. The house is made out of wood and it looks like the houses in the Teton Trek at the Memphis Zoo. There is also a fire place and a big one. It shows that the owner lives in a really cold place and has harsh winters. There are also many chairs in the room which to me looks like a living room.
4) In set D, the set shows that the play is about a rich wealthy man pondering and thinking about what to do. He looks like he is pacing back and forth in that room. There are two women in the same room with him. One is an older woman and the other one looks much younger than the man and the woman. The older woman looks like she is a grandmother asking the younger woman to clean the room up. I do not know what time the scene was set. I can tell that the house is not a house but a castle. It has high ceilings and a perfect view of the mountain across the valley. There are also pillars which prove that the house should be a castle or an old fashioned mansion. Everything in the castle looks like it is made out of white marbles.

I think that in Set C, you and I had the same thoughts. We can tell that the house is maybe in Alaska and with the guns and the antler trophy hanging on the wall. Good thinking.
A. The first set reminds me of a very traditional play. This play would be about a rich family or a rich culture. The first thing that comes to mind is the titanic. The rich were extremly well taken care of on this ship and this reminds me of a room I saw in that movie. All rich plays or movies make reference to in a small or big way to the poor. So i would think there would also be a set in this play of the poor and how they lived. This play may be about a rich girl who falls in love with a poor man. Meanwhile her parents want her to marry the rich guy they picked for her.
ReplyDeleteB. The second set reminds me of a story of a farm. The traditional porch where most of the story takes place because it is a common sterotype of the south or country in general to sit on your front porch and not do anything. This story may be about a young man who is tired of living in the south. He is not very smart though and has no means of getting of the farm. As he grows up he realizes the simplicity of the farm life and falls in love with it after he meets his future wife.
C. The third set lokos like a place where an old couple would live. A play would be boring if that was the only two people there so i think it could be a holiday with the whole family. There are guns on the wall so a murder could have taken place. Maybe a young evil kid is killing off his family for there inheritance. However the kid is so young and happy all the time that the family never suspects him of the crime. One day his family catches him and they kill and burry him in the front yard.
D. The third set looks like an old play that took place a long time ago. Since there are few props, the people at the time couldnt make a better set. This play could be about the traditional roman cutlture and a senate who is declaring war. They sent a woman into a circle so she could talk to the oracle. She is playing with the sword and the senate is hiding watching her moves. Then the city goes to war and a new hero arises.
Response to Max: I agree with Max Chang about the first scene. I described my wealthy scene and his could also be plausible. The paino gives it away that these people are wealthy. It is also highly likly that they are having a party. Whenever there is a party with a lot of people and drinking, anything could go wrong.
A) In the first set, I pictured a play that would contain the wealthier class. Also, I feel like this could easily be a murder set. I feel like one wealthy person would kill another one over a woman in this set. I may be wrong, but this is my interpertation of the set.
ReplyDeleteB) This set could remind me of a country house party. The house reminds of something that would be in Fayette county. The lighting gives the scene a night look, and it is spot lighting the house. In movies when there is a house party, it is always a dark setting with a highlighted house.
C) In set C, I see this being a Christmas or holiday setting. I would say this because of the use of the color red. In my opinion, red always brings the Christmas spirit to me. I would say it would be a holiday setting because the room is so clean. Most people do not have their rooms this spotless unless there having people over, and the color brought the Christmas spirit.
D) This set looks like something of Star Wars. The outfits are different, and there is a volcano in the background. This must of been an awkward scene, but I really don't have a good idea of what it could be used for.

I agree with you one the second set, and I did not even think about the porch. It is kind of like a country house
A) IN this set I could see an old style play. Almost a gone with the wind kind of play. I think it is an old play because it has the columns and a nice panio.
ReplyDeleteB) In this set I think it would be someones hunting cabin or weekend lodge. It looks like it would be way back in the woods. It seems as if it would be serene.
C) This set makes me think of like an old married couples house. It almost looks like nothing has been touched or moved since whoever moved in.
D) This set makes me think we are in Pompii. I just see the smoking volcano in the background. And the inside part of the set looks like how old Roman spas were set up.

I agree with you on the first set does look like it would be a wealthier class family.
A) From my thoughts, this looks like it could be a play pertaining a royal family. I could see this setting place sometime in Europe during the medieval ages. This could also pertain to a royal Asian family.
ReplyDeleteB) This could involve an old white Southern family. Back in the 1800's in middle America. I can tell by looking at the style of the house. It looks as if it is in the middle of the country, far from a city.
C) This looks to me like someone's summer house in the backwoods in the 1850's. It's a peaceful looking place and looks as if no one lives there anymore.
D) This scene looks like it is in Old England or Scotland somewhere. The volcano doesn't really fit with these places, but the other parts of the scene really tell me that it is in Europe somewhere.
Response to Brock: I agree with you about the old style play. it could easily be Gone With The Wind. I can also agree with the Pompii set. It really looks like that to me also.
A) From looking at set A, I believe that set A could be used in a play like Othello located in Italy. This set could also be used for in my opinion for a murder or mystery type play for the royal, upper class families. The scene appears to display a dark image that would be perfect for a murder or mystery type of play.
ReplyDeleteB) Set B appears to me to look like a set that could be used for a time during the Depression in suburban areas. The house shown displays that the family living in the house is poor.The house looks like is it from the early 1930's.
C)Set C appears to be a house owned by a wealthy family who likes to hunt because of the guns on the wall and the deer antlers also displayed on the wall. I think the house is also located somewhere in Alaska just from looking at the style of the room.
D) This set reminds me of somewhere in Rome because of the layout of the room as well as the costume the woman on the right is wearing. She appears to be a slave in Rome. The Volcano displayed in the background could be a volcano in Pompeii.
Response to Brock: I completely agree with you that the volcano in the background is in Pompeii. That was the first thing that came to my mind when I looked at this set.
1. Set A looks like a show is taken place during the Victorian era. The floors have a design that is ancient. The posts resemble some of the beautiful landmarks. The trees and the grass show what the atmosphere outside was like. There is a piano and it represents the most common music that was played. In the background, a woman is shown wearing a huge dress. In the old times, women wore pale makeup and they wore long dresses. Over near the left corner of the set, there is a man dressed in green. He is wearing white socks and many men used to dress like that. The set is definitely set for the old ages and in the time of Queen Victoria.
ReplyDelete2. Set B looks like a show that is taken place in an old Mississippi house. The home is way out in the country and there is a lonely farmer who has just lost his wife. The man is trying to find a new way to appreciate what he has in his life. The front lawn is nicely cut and the man does a good job of keeping his yard clean. What makes the scene interesting is that it is dark and the farmer is thinking about his wife. The set looks like it is taken place in the early 1950s during the segregated times. I think this would be a good set because it shows the man and his passion for his farm. While working on the farm, the man appreciates what he has in his life. The man works and that makes him happy.
3. Set C looks like an old house that is still being lived in. I believe a good plot would be about a wealthy man that still loves living in an older house. The man doesn’t need to buy a brand new house. He has passion and loves the home that he has been living in. There is a lot of furniture including all of the chairs. Also, the set looks really nice because there is going to be a party that takes place here. I think it could be used as a baby shower. All of the women could play games and exchange gifts in here. Although, there are guns at the top of the ceiling. In the plot, a man lives here and he also likes collecting guns. The fireplace is huge and stands out the most in the set. This room is supposed to look like an old house. The floors are old and there are some scratches on them. Even though the room is old, the room still continues to have many events that take place in there.
4. Set D looks like a perfect set. The set has candles. There is a beautiful painting of a volcano. I would say this set is taken place during the times of the Romans. A very wealthy king is in the background. He is mysterious and he is a mystery man. The first woman to the left is his wife. The queen has tried to be a good wife to the king. The young woman of her knees is the king’s mistress. The wife wants to punish the young woman. The king is in the background and he doesn’t want any part of this. It looks like the young woman is tied to a rope. She cannot move and the queen wants to finish her. This set resembles a dark play. Royalty, romance, sex, violence, and honor takes place in this play. I think the volcano shows that the king’s empire is falling apart along with his wife. Many outsiders wander what the king’s secrets are. Only the king and his wife will ever know what goes on in their kingdom.

I like how you described Set A as murder mystery play. The setting is dark and Italy is a mischievous place for this scene to take place in. I agree again with the depression part of Set B. I think the man was in poverty and he was growing many crops on his farm during the 1950s. In Set C, I agree that the man could be a hunter who lives in a nice and old-fashioned house. In Set D, that girl could be a slave because she is tied to something and she looks scared. All of your responses were written short and simple and I understood all of your points.
1. Set A is a pretty interesting set. It reminds me of the old European world. It is a very grand yet somehow subtle display of elegance and nobility. The set features a grand piano, which gives it the feel of wealth and class and the symmetry the room has gives the set a hint of simplicity. It reminds me of a set you’d see in movies such as the Count of Monte Cristo
ReplyDelete2. Set B is your classic south-western set. It shows us a much simpler time when a man’s job was simply his land. Set B brings us back to our roots as working people. The man sitting in the front yard seems to be down on his luck as much of our population was in those times
3. Set C is the interior of an older house. It almost reminds me of what I’d expect to be inside the house shown in Set B. It is a very simple house that has old southern architecture inside it. The furniture and the fire place give this house that grandmotherly feel you get when seeing your grandparents
4. Set D is probably the hardest of the four to interpret. The volcano reminds me of Pompeii. And the columns in the house also remind me of the Roman Empire. If I had to take a guess this is the house of Roman nobility right before the destruction of Pompeii.
Response to Browning:
I agree with Browning on all his interpretations of the sets. Are ideas seem to be pretty in tune.
A. Set A looks like it would be on the outdoor of a villa in the 1700- 1800's. Looks as if people go out on the balcony of the villa to dance and listen to the piano player. Only the rich and powerful would be allowed at such events, judging from the elaborate things on set. There is a lake or river on the edge of the house, probaly a southern plantation owners home in Lousiana. They would have masquerad balls and great dinners in the villa.
ReplyDeleteB. Set B looks like a house in the middle of a praire. It looks dark and gloomy in the background, it may be a haunted house or someone has just been murdered in it. The houe looks barren and deserted, it could be a place where teenagers go to hangout. The house also looks like it could contain a huge family, where the kids always get into fights because they are siblings.
C. Set C looks like a place where a hunters family would live. It looks very conservative, country, and simple. Lokos like a house wher an old couple has lived for many years. They raised a family in it and our now retired grandparents. There might have been a murder that took place in the house and it is now haunted by little children. It seems like a very boring set though and very bland, so there are definetly old people involved in the play.
D. Set D looks like it's set in the old roman times, looks like there is a slave girl, a maiden, and a dark figure of a man in the picture. There could a murder geting ready to happen symbolized by the man wearing all black and the maiden on her knees. This room is defiently in a palace, symbolizing royaly of some type. The maiden also has on a gold hair crown which makes her look rich. The black figure could also be a priest getting ready to do something to the maiden, maybe baptize her. Or sacrifice her because of the candles and the volcano in the background.
Response to Merrit Jacks: I like how you described everything in each picture and how it relates to your main topic. I agree with everything you said and they would be great basis for plays.
Set A. Reminds me simply of a 1930's ball room, where elegance and parties have taken place. It also looks like a place where rich people just come to dine and entertain one another.

On a land that is ran by hard working farmers, it also looks like this set was built in the mid-1950's. This set just gives off the feelings that used to be prevelant in this country in the past, when a man could be proud of a hard days work and support his family.
Set C. Is a se that looks very plain and simple where it looks very country, it almost looks as if this is the inside of "Set C".
Set D. Looks as if the play took place in the Roman/ Grecian Empire era, the scene which seems to about to take place is Julius Cesear is about to walk in and take charge and sit down and watch the valcano and the sun set.
In response to Corbin: I also agree on your ideas about set A.
1. Set A reminds me of a story of maybe a late 1800's English house of maybe the Queen or something. The room looks like that is where the queen would have a party or ball. Maybe the play would be something like a King one a battle and they were celebrating a victory.

I think the family would be big because it was during the baby booming era which would make it hard for them to survive.
3. Set C looks like a European cottage maybe in Germany or Sweden that it would maybe be in the 1930's or 40's during WW2. Maybe the play would be about a family that was in the middle of WW2 and they were trying to escape or something.
4. Set D looks like the den of Caesar in Roman times. Maybe the play would be about Julius Caesar or something like his story about betrayal. Maybe it is the story about the fall of the roman empire and the rise of the British empire.

The first picture reminds me of a roman style house. The type of house that would belong to a wealthier family back when the roman empire was in power. It would also seem like the room where the homeowners would host a party or a function of some sort. It also seems like the living room area of the house.
ReplyDeleteThe second set picture reminds me of a house out in a rural area in maybe the late 1800s or depression era. the house looks like it belongs to a poorer family in the middle of the plains part of America. The owners are most likely farmers in that area.
The third one looks like the inside of a house in maybe 1920s Russia. The owners might be Jews in that area. The people might be middle class or lower class but the house seems cozy for them.
The last picture seems like the private room for a Greek official. It would be the place where all of the dirt deals and the place where he would relax after a hard day of work.

Set A. I think that this set could have been used for a play in England around the Elizabethan age. The set seems to be characteristic of a rich or noble family that has a large house in the countryside, with columns and a piano. The floor is tiled and there is a balcony so it is a two-story home. This could be used in a rag to riches story or vice versa, or it could be used in a war story towards the beginning of the play before war breaks out.

I don’t really see any symbolism in this set except for the darkness above the set. It could mean that something bad is going to happen or that it is nighttime.
Set C. This set could be used for almost any time period. It is probably used for some sort of German home before World War II.
Set D. This set is very distinct of ancient Rome. Looking at the position of the characters, I would say that the man in the back captured the girl on the right and tied her up. The woman on the left may be related to the girl. In the back there is a smoking mountain so this may be a story based around Pompeii.

I agree that set B could be set in that time period, it has a sort of Tom Sawyer appearance to it.
A) In the first photograph, it looks like it is set in a big house, probably a mansion. The people who own it are rich. This is obvious because of the large piano and the painting in the background. It looks a little dark and creepy though. I could see a murder taking place here.

I can tell that it is nighttime because of how bright the house lights look in contrast to the rest of the scene. Also, it is dark above the house. It does not seem like this is taking place in modern times because of the style of the house.
C)This looks like a small but nice house. It seems like it is either set in the Old South or the prairie in the West. I've seen houses in both of those places represented like this. Also there are two guns hanging above the door so these people probably hunt their food. They definitely shoot things because there is a deer head.
D) This looks like it is set in Rome. The clothes that the girl on the left looks like what the Romans wore.l Honestly, I cannot imagine what is happening. The girl is tied up and the other two are just standing around...

Yes that last one is probably set in Pompeii. I would not have thought of that.
1) Set A looks like an Elizabethan style ball room. It looks like a love story that happened back in the 1500's. It looks like the ball room is getting prepared for a ball room dance for the rich and powerful people. The trees and water that have been painted on the walls look like it could mean that part of the ball room is outside. The women there would be wearing extravagant dresses and would have on the makeup that they used to wear which made them look very pale. This was a sign of wealth because it meant that they did not have to do anything outside. The parts of the ball room look typical for what most would think of in this situation.

The people that live in these houses are shown and the difficulties of the life are shown throughout the show. They have to find things to eat and live through the rules of the newly founded America.
3) Set C looks like a little shack in the middle of the woods. It could be a place for people from the city to go and stay there for a little while in order to hunt. On the top left wall you can see two guns that are most likely used for hunting. The person that uses this cabin could either be a person from the city who likes to come out to the wild but it could also be a person that just lives there and likes the peace of the woods.
4) Set D looks like something from back in the Roman Empire days. The man looks like he could be a priest of some sort. He looks like he could be there to talk to these women about something that they may have done or are thinking about doing that may not be very smart.

I see where you could get a European vibe from this cabin in set C. I'm not sure about the German thing but I do agree that it could be somewhere in Europe.
Set A: At first the setting reminds me of something out of a play around ancient rome or greece. Maybe of someone in a high social status. However, after looking in the background i realize a painting of a woman wearing, what seems to be a corset or some old dress. So this leads me to believe that it is in the victorian age in england or france.

Set C. This set reminds me of an old wester eurpoean home. I can tell that since the style is so old that maybe the play has something to do with world war II, or something like that concerning europe.
Set D. This set definetly reminds me of an ancient greek or roman era due in large part to the people's style of clothing. The woman are wearing togas, and the style of the building, broad areas with wide door frames, arches, and pedistals. Also, the volcano in the background may refer to Pompaii.

Someone with royal or noble blood would live here, unlike the second set which looks to be a house set out west maybe in the middle of a farm in the dust bowl due to the dirty floor and hay on the ground. The third set looks like a lodge house or deer camp of a very wealthy big game hunter. The fourth picture looks like a bath house on a secluded island with tropical backgrounds

Set A) The first set reminds me of colonial American/British era. The marble floor, columns, and grand piano shows that the owner of this house must be very wealthy; probably someone of a noble or royal class. The backdrop is that of a fine vineyard and the two figures are of a man and woman dressed very finely. This could be Buckingham Palace or the White House.
ReplyDeleteSet B)This set looks like a frontier house in the mid-late 1800s. Probably out in Wyoming or Kansas or something like that. This set could be used for the Wizard of Oz or Huckleberry Finn.
Set C)This house looks like it could be used for a play about WWI or WWII. The number of chairs shows that a lot of people live there and the guns show that the residents need protection. This house could have been used to hide Jews in WWII or on the French battlezone frontier in WWI.
Set D) This set strikes me in two very different ways. At first, I see a Roman palace with a smoking volcano in the background. But when I look closer, I see an almost futuristic palace that looks like it is set in a different place in time, almost like Star Wars. Also, the shadowing on the man's face gives the set an eery and ominous tone.

ReplyDelete1. I would use the first set for a play set in Europe in the 1700s. It shows a lot of elegance and marble styling you would expect for that time period. It could be anywhere form British to Italian.
ReplyDelete2. I see this set as being a ranch house from the 1800s in the United States. It displays very simple, basic wood structures I associate with that time period. It could be about some sort of robbery that is going to take place because of the setting being at night.
3. I see this set as being used for a family’s household somewhere in the south. It could range from the 1800s to modern times; it’s hard to tell from the picture. All of the wooden furniture in the house makes me think that it might be closer to the 1800s era rather than modern times. It definitely has characteristics of the southern United States though.
4. This last set reminds me a lot of a Roman bathhouse from the Roman Empire. With the volcano irrupting in the background it makes me think it is based in the city of Pompeii. The volcano could be Mt. Vesuvius that irrupted in Pompeii. I definitely think it has the characteristics of a Roman bathhouse though.

Yea, I definitely agree with you about the last set being Roman. It does look a lot like Mt. Vesuvius and Roman society.
In the first set I felt like the play took place in Italy. The house seemed like it belonged to wealthy Italian family. The play seems like some what of a modern Roman style. The set itself seems like it is a ballroom, or maybe a large room for parties or events. The house would belong to a wealthy family or of someone with royal blood.
ReplyDeleteIn the second set I see a middle class family with house on the farm. The house seems like it is in romote location and that the family supports itself through the farm. It also reminds me of a more simple time. I think the play would take place some time after the Civil War.
The third set reminds me of a Hunting Lodge in the mountains. By the furnature give the impession of a traditional, but more wealthy and upper class lodge.
The final set reminds me of a courtyard in a kings palace. It reminds me of a fictional movie like Lord Of The Rings. I feel like the play would fall somewhere along those lines.

ReplyDeleteA. This photograph looks like some French house in a French countryside. The house is elegant and belongs to the upper class. The pillars are popular among rich people. The piano is also a sign of wealth. I am saying it is Frech, because a lot of French people still are influenced by a pretentious aristocracy. It is older so it is probably before the French Revoltion.
ReplyDeleteB.This too me looks like an American middle class house on the edge of the wilderness. The stage is black so there is no bacground scenery, but I guess it is just typical forrest. The house is made of wood so, I gues there is a lot of trees nearby. It is probably set in a time period in the early nineteen hundreds.
C. This place looks like living room to a log cabin in the wilderness. There are guns and antlers hanging from the wall. There is no electronics so it is pre 1920's. It is probably an upper class family because that is a really nice fireplace and that would be hard to build by hand.
D. This looks like that Roman port Pompeii that was about to be destroyed by a volcano. The people are definatly Roman because of the way the dress and the arcitecture. The volcano is smoking and about explode and kill all of the residents in the city. It is in Roman times.
Responce to Carter Flemming: Yea the second picture could be out of Huckleberry Finn.
A) Set A would be used for a play in Europe. The piano portrays the wealth and class of those in the set. Specifically, it looks as if Set A could correspond with a ballroom due to the chandeliers along with the piano as well as the wide space that would give room for dancing as being part of a ball.
ReplyDeleteB) This reminds me a bit of a rural home out in the country. It's obviously not in moderate times so it looks like it's anywhere below the 1900s in America. The hay displays the rural outlook of it while the wooden architecture of the home makes it look pre 20th century.
C) Obviously, what first comes to mind is a home. It looks as if there's some kind of hunting activities going on due to the guns being displayed on the wall along with the antlers. I think it's a living room in a home in North America before the Industrial Revolution where the family reads and spends quiet time.
D) This set looks very,very old dating back to Roman times. The volcano portrays how popular art was back in Rome during the Roman era with extravagant art. Moreover, this play could illustrate a Roman castle or even a political building in Rome.
The first set reminds me of the old country days or England. The reason this is, is because the pillars and the paintings, also the lady all dressed up. She looks like she would be dressed like a plantation owner or a wealthy owner in the country. 2. The second set reminds me of a simple country house. I see this because it just looks like that type of setting the house and the man out in the front sitting down. 3. The third set kind of reminds me of a hunter’s house. This is because of the guns on the wall, the fire place, and the way it is set up. The couches make it homey and it looks like a home away from home. 4. The last one reminds me of a sort a Greek or Roman palace. The reason is because the volcano or the painting of one in the background. The way the people are dressed looks like they are Roman or Greek people. Also the pillars give it that Roman and Greek look. Also the people in it look like they have a slave and looking at her clothing the slave girl looks Greek and the other two people look Roman.

A) This set would be most applicable to a play set in Victorian area England, most of the performance being set in a nobleman or wealthy person's home. It would hopefully include some sort of duel, but would most likely be about love and betrayal. There could be a story of a daring bandit who hangs out among the nobles while secretly doing his thing.
ReplyDeleteB) The coloration of this set brings on a notion of Irish involvement, simply because of the color scheme of green and yellowish/gold. Elaborating on the Irish theme, it could be a story much like Rumpelstiltskin in that it would involve a mischievous imp or Leprechaun of some kind which the main character of the story must have some match of wits or magic with.
C) When I saw this picture, I could not help but think it was from a play set in the modern era, but with older people who lived in an older style of home. The rifles mounted on the wall could indicate that the husband had fought in a war at some point, and the antlers might point to a time when people had to hunt for food, but that they no longer had to. It would definitely be the home of a more wealthy family, as it appears to be a rather large home. The absence of much modern technology would bring out the fact that many older couples like to live simpler and without all the newfangled stuff. Also, no lighting is visible, so there could be electric lighting.
D) This scene would be from ancient Greece, possibly a town not quite as close to Mount Vesuvius as Pompeii. The girl in the right of the picture seems to be grieving, so she may have witnessed the destruction of Pompeii form afar, and been sad because she had friends and/or family there. The man is trying to tell her that it is silly to behave like this and there was nothing anyone could do. The other woman would intervene with such talk, but as she is a woman, it would not be wise to talk to the man, possibly her husband, in that way, so she simply stares into the pool of water. The house in which they are standing was possibly affected by the earthquakes which shook the area around Vesuvius, because the pillars in it are conspicuously on their sides instead of holding up the roof where they should be.

I guess the first one could be French, and if so you are right to say it is pre-revolution because the house isn't messed up, and after the revolution most of the houses of the rich were pretty messed up.
The third picture is most likely a living room, but I do not think it would be in the wilderness, it is too nice for that.
A) This set, to me, looks like an 18th century, European setting. It looks like the middle of a wealthy ballroom. It looks like the place where the upper-class would meet to have parties or other social gatherings. The tile particularly stands out. This unique pattern can really allow the audience to believe that they are in a real place.
ReplyDeleteB) This simple looking house reminds me of a rural area. The holes in the wood and a certain attraction to the house. The yellow and green house is very appealing as well to the eyes. The man sitting on the bench also catches the viewers’ attention.
C) This set is also a very simple one. It is a very small room that has a lot of furniture in it. Although the furniture is simple, it is very nice. The wood is furnished and shiny. To me the color that stands out the most is red. The two guns on the wall and to the simple life style.
D) This set looks like a more symbolic one. The man in center of the room may represent the Devil. The two women seem to represent Good and Evil; and Good is in captivity. The chains may represent the “weight” of life’s trials and tribulations.
A. My interpretation of the set in this particular picture is probably a very old Victorian stlyle play. The set reminds of a setting of like a love story set back in the old days. It reminds me also of a very upper-class, rich setting that only the best and most wealthy could attend. This set is very interesting.

I can tell because the man is wearing a coat.It reminds me of when the houses werent very sophisticated and they all had to use outhouses to use the restroom.
C. The next set reminds me of maybe a family meeting in a living room. The living room area is very nice and contains alot of nice furniture that adds to the look of the room. The red pillows really stand out to me and all the pictures and objects on the wall really go well with the room.
D. The next set reminds me of alot of confusion. It looks like they are building something with all of the fallen pillars and stuff and the woman working on her knees looks like she isnt in the best mood.

I agree with the last set. It does kind of remind me of the devil also. The weight could very much represent the trial and tribulations that life gives us. I never really thought of it that way, good insight.

ReplyDeleteI think the third set could definitly be a family room where the family meets together to discuss the day.
The first set looks like something that would be a part of a show involving the Renaissance. It's architecture seems like something that would have been built around that time. It also has a very relaxed feel to it, which would probably make it a rich person's house out by the countryside. The second set looks like a house built in the 1930s. It has a feeling of a family living there around the time of the Great Depression. It also has a somewhat despairing feeling behind it, and could possibly be in the area that was affected by the Dust Bowl. The third set looks like the inside of a house that exists in a very cold part of the world, possibly Siberia or northern Canada. There seems to be evidence of the hunting of animals that exist in colder regions, and also there is a beautiful fire place that would be absolutely essential for any house in the extreme cold. The fourth set looks like a space that belongs to a wealthy citizen of some part of the ancient Roman empire, possibly a diplomat of some sort. The volcano spewing smoke in the background could also indicate that the production is reenacting the final moments of the city of Pompeii.

While I mentioned the idea of Pompeii in the final set, I didn't think of the people in the picture in those terms. Good observation.
A) This set initially made me think that it was an Italian setting. The columns and the background were the main reasons for this. The great number of trees and the water give it an Italian feel. But after seeing the two people in the background, it reminded me more of England during the reign of Queen Victoria. With the piano, elaborate floor, chandeliers, and flowers, I imagine that this is the setting of a noble, wealthy English family.
ReplyDeleteB) The set in this photo automatically gives off a country vibe. The wooden house is a rarely seen in urban areas and is ordinary in rural areas like this one. Because of the green paint on the house, it can be assumed that the time the play takes place is in the 1900s because actual paint was rarely used before then in rural areas. The ground looks like it could be covered in hay; there is a possibility that there is a farm in addition to the farmhouse. The occupants of this house would probably be poor.
C) This is another southern style house. While the set form Set B was more of a rural poor house, this one seems like a fairly wealthy southern family's home. The guns on the wall make it seem like there are hunters in the house, which make it southern. With the furniture being all wooden, the likelihood that this is a modern play is very unlikely. If it weren't for the guns, I would guess that this house belongs to a Native American family because of the large array of colors.
D) This set is the most unique of the four. The people on the set and the large walls make it seem Roman/Greek or any other possible culture from Ancient times. While the setting seems simple with just walls, candles, and a background, it looks like there are arches built into the ground. Maybe they are brought up later in the play, but it seems unlikely. One other catching detail is that there are only chairs, no tables or anything.

I agree that the set in A is most likely from the Victorian times and belongs to a wealthy family. I can see where you get the feeling that the setting is possibly cold, taking into account the lighting, blue background, and the clothes the man is wearing. In set C, the red pillows caught my eye too. They were the reason I said this could have belonged to a Native American family. I noticed the fallen pillars in set D, but it didn't even cross my mind that they could be rebuilding the hole in the back or something else.
The first pictures looks as if it is based on a older english style of a home or large palace. It has columns inside which demonstrate wealth and class along with the chandeliers which look very expensive. Finally the marble floor sets the scene for a wealthy families home.

The third picture would fit perfectly inside the farm house because you can see guns on the ceiling and the furniture looks old. There are old style rockers and the floor looks as if it very old.
The final picture look like an old greek set or another scene from the first picture. There are pillars and the marble floor looks the same. The way the people are dress shows wealth and the the fact that it takes place in the past.
A) I could see this being used in like marie antoinette. You get Pillars and table settings, as well as a grand piano. To me, that speaks to rich culture, like France woud've been before the revolution.
ReplyDeleteB) This I see as more of a "To Kill a Mockingbird" kind of set. It's simple and country and looks like a true piece of Americana. The humble chairs and lawn look to a family with little money, but enough respect to keep their things nice.
C) This looks like the set from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." The inside of a windmill with small furniture that can barely hold anyone. It's very english countryside in nature. The many checkered patterns and large fireplace really look to me as if a countryside family would live there.
D) This reminds me of "Gladiator." It's epic and Roman or Greek in design. I could see it being used as Helen of Troy's chamber before she is taken away. It's simple and bare, but large enoguh to be for royalty.

Your analysis of set D is nice. It didn't even occur to me with having only chairs would be a sign of anything. That is a very interesting point.
Set A- Reminds me of a very vast grand palace. The pillars make me think of the palace as being extremely large and beautiful. The artwork on the walls makes me think of old times like the 1500's.

In this first story I think that this would most likely be about a mideval welthy family in the old times in ancient Europe. I can tell this because in has a raly nice banqu;ent room where the king can entertain his guest. This is because it has pollers that hold up the castle walls and thlis is where the nobels would come to eat and dance. And the king would have perfomers wntertain them.

To me this looks like an old hunting lodge in the uoper west side of the united states. It is where sara palin would go hunting to kill caraboo and it looks like the big fire place would keep you very warkm.
The third placve looks like ancient Italy. Pompi perhaps just before mount vasuvious erupts.
Set one looks like a park in the victorian age, with the background of the setting and the pillars it seems like a luxurious park. The piano in the middle makes me think that there may be a party or social gathering of some sort going on.

Set three is the inside of a hunting lodge, but it seems cold. With the lighting, it looks like it's a cold room that no one is in. The people may be going on a hunting trip, possibly for deer.
Set four would be a good scene for Othello. The medieval castle would be a great setting, and it seems like possibly Desdemona is crying in the corner of the set DSL.

I think that set A is an old Victorian living room. It has all of the common known items within it, the piano, the columns, and the chandeliers. It looks like it would be a set piece in a play that took place within that time; therefore, I believe that it represents a Victorian age house.
ReplyDeleteSet B looks like a 1930s farm house in rural United States. It reminds me of the set in the movie Wizard of Oz. The farm house and the things that litter the front yard and porch brought me to the conclusion that the play would be about some time in the early 1900’s. The man waiting on the benches clothes also match my theory. He looks to be wearing an overcoat and jeans, both pieces of clothing were common in the time period.
Set C looks like the inside of a house in the United States. There are no TV’s or any other kind of electronics so I think that it also would be in the same time period of set B. Whoever owned the place is obviously a hunter; there are rifles above the door and a deer rack over the other door. I would enjoy living in a house like this; it looks really comfortable with no distractions.
Set D looks like an ancient roman scene where the emperor is talking to a slave about something. The pillars that have been laid down for places to sit make me think that it belongs to an old roman or Greek emperor and the play would be set around the time of the Roman Empire.
Set A looks as if it isduring roman times in the palace or in a rich persons manshion in the balcony room and it looks as if it is a love story because of the bright colors. Picture B looks like it is in the 70's and with the american dream. Set C looks like it is in some sort of cabin in the woods or something like that. Set D looks like it was set in roman times in the place of the ceaser and it looks as if someone is going to get killed.

A) The first thought that entered my head when I saw this scene was "wedding." Perhaps this is mainly due to the grand piano and the flowers that stick out to the eye. The color white is a very common sight at weddings, and there is an abundance of it in this set. In addition, the cheery aura of the natural background suggests a ceremony. The story that would take place in this scene would most likely involve two lovers hitching up.
ReplyDeleteB) The style of the house, lighting, and items in the yard suggest a country scene. I would most likely use this scene to tell a story similar to the movie "Secondhand Lions" - that was the first thing that came to mind. Perhaps there is a large stash of money hidden somewhere underground, and a few gluttons come in the middle of the night to steal it. The mand sitting on the bench is guarding the money, wherever it may be.
C) This scene is most definitely a living room in a hunting house, as evidenced by the rifles and deer head on the walls. The abundance of wood suggests "forest." In order to best use the surroundings, a great story would involve two hunters sitting in the chairs, talking about the game and the possibility that Bigfoot is somewhere out in the woods, primed to be shot , killed, and eaten.
D) As the background volcano, medieval styling, and outfits suggest, this scene involves a royal family at the foot of an active Mt. Vesuvius. Perhaps the family is discussing what to do when the volcano begins to shoot lava and how to handle those who will be fleeing the city. Perhaps the woman on the right is angry over the decisions made and is on her knees praying over what to do. The man standing in front of the window is selfish and wants to let everyone die because he only cares about the well-being of his family. The woman on the left is indifferent as long as she survives.

SET A: This looks as though the setting could be used as some sort of area inside a castle where maybe the king throws some sort of mutual gathering for his people.

SET C: This reminds me of a setting that could be described as something related to the winter. It just reminds me of cold weather and it also looks like a cozy place for a fire or some type of hunting play where men talk about there days out in the wild.
SET D: This reminds me as some sort of play that could have been done in the renaisance time. I'm not really sure if anyone else agrees with me but thats what comes to mind when i see that.

Set A Looks like the set up for a very elegant ball. It looks like the setting of a wedding after party. It looks like the set up for when George W. Bush and Laura got married. The former president, George H. Bush, seems to me to be the man that put this together because of his elegant taste of fashion. That is what Set A reminds me of.
ReplyDeleteSet B looks like the house of a hard working lumber jack. The night time sets the scene. To me it is as if he is coming home late at night from chopping down trees and his oldest son is sitting in the front yard on the bench waiting for his pa to get home. His son is almost as big as he is but he is not as wise/ the son and father both built the yard furniture and the house with their bare hands and basic tools.
Set C looks like the hunting lodge that I would hopefully in the future belong too. The guns up on the wall are there for show because it was when the original owner went hunting 327 different bears attacked him and he fought them off and killed and identified every single one of the bears. The house is old but always warm and cozy. It is usually full with whiskey, bourbon, and men and one woman who cook all of the food.
Set D looks like it has taken place in the future. It looks like it is after the apocalypse and a group of people need a place to practice their religion and they have chosen an old abandoned airplane hangar. They had to put a pillar in front of the door to keep it open because it kept closing and when it closes it locks. It is a place where people are trying to get their religion basic on track and it is also a place of hope and help.

Set A I feel that i would use this scene in a play possible related to the time of the italian renissance in Italy and possibly a love story like romeo and juliet. I could also possibly use it for relgious purposes in a play maybe to represent heaven scene the set is so beautiful and artistic.

In the play maybe i would use it as the house of a murder scene in which someone must devoluge the murder back in a time when they basically had to rely on themselves and experience to unravel a murder mystery.
For set C I would use this set for maybe a few scenes inside a country cabin since the house seems to be owned by a hunter and is slightly premitive but homey at the same time. In my play i would possibly you the room specifically to be the living room of some family in my play where people gather to have meeting or just relax.
For scene D i would use this set for maybe a few scenes in a couple of different style of settings. One i would use this as maybe a Roman kind of play back when Rome seemed to rule the world and they have such an elequent house. Another type of play i would use this set for is possible a fantasy play in which this could be taking place on a planet far away with aliens that look just like us.

1)In set A, I see the setting of the play to be in the early 1920's as a kind of mysterious crime play. I see as if there are two detectives trying to figure out a crime or it could be a love story between two people.The set is very artistic and displays beautifeul artwork.
